99minds & Lightspeed (R-Series) – FAQ

Security Recommendation: Gift Card Code Randomization

For security purposes, avoid using sequential numbers in gift card codes, as predictable codes may increase the risk of unauthorized use. If existing gift card codes follow a sequential pattern, Lightspeed recommends randomizing the prefixes used when creating gift cards to improve code unpredictability.

Additional Note: Lightspeed Retail gift card codes must contain between 8 and 32 characters. If migrating existing gift cards with codes shorter than 8 characters, add letters or numbers to meet the minimum character requirement.

1. What is the Lightspeed R-Series loyalty widget?

The Lightspeed R-Series loyalty widget is a 99minds feature integrated into the Lightspeed POS. It lets the store collect customer loyalty data (e.g. opt-ins, contact info, loyalty points, coupons) during the checkout process. Using the widget, customers can earn points and redeem rewards directly through the Lightspeed interface. For example, in the default configuration a customer earns 10 points for every $1 spent, and redeeming 100 points issues a $10 coupon. The widget’s behavior (such as showing coupons or requiring phone numbers) is fully customizable in the 99minds dashboard.

2. How do I install and enable the Lightspeed R-Series loyalty widget?

Follow these steps:

  1. Log into 99minds: Ensure you are logged into your 99minds account on the machine you’ll use for setup.

  2. Go to Integrations: In the 99minds dashboard, click the Integrations tab on the left menu. Verify that Lightspeed R-Series is listed.

  3. Manage the R-Series Integration: Click Manage next to Lightspeed R-Series. In the Manage screen, look for Loyalty Widget settings.

  4. Enable the widget: Ensure the Loyalty Widget is enabled. (If it’s already enabled, you will see an option to disable it – this confirms it’s active.).

Once enabled, the loyalty widget will be active for your store. You can then proceed to customize its options as needed.

3. How do I customize the loyalty widget’s options?

On the Loyalty Widget settings page in 99minds:

  • Configure features: You can enable or disable features like showing loyalty points, coupons, VIP tiers, etc. For example, you might turn on the Show Coupons option to let the widget display a customer’s available coupons.

  • Set labels and messages: For each feature (coupons, points, opt-in prompts), you can specify the text that appears on the widget. This includes the title and messages for prompts (e.g. “Enter Phone Number” or coupon labels).

  • Point earning/redeeming rules: Define how many points are earned per dollar and how many points yield which reward. In the example given, 10 points are earned per $1 spent, and 100 points can be redeemed for a $10 coupon. You can adjust these under the Ways to Redeem and Ways to Earn settings.

  • After making changes, save all settings. The widget URL (in Lightspeed) will update accordingly.

These customizations optimize what customers see and interact with during checkout.

4. How do I test the loyalty widget in Lightspeed R-Series?

After installing and customizing the widget in 99minds:

  1. Log into Lightspeed R-Series: Open the Lightspeed POS and create a new sale.

  2. Add a customer: Attach a customer (e.g. “John Doe”) to the sale. You should now see three tabs on the screen: Gift Card, Loyalty, and Coupons.

  3. Verify widget integration: Click on the Loyalty tab and open the widget. It should reflect the customizations you made (e.g. showing any active coupons or loyalty prompts).

  4. Perform loyalty actions: Add a product to the cart and then click the widget’s loyalty buttons. This will redirect you to the 99minds loyalty interface. You should see options to issue gift cards, coupons, or manage loyalty points.

  5. Earning points: Complete the sale. Based on the settings, the customer should earn loyalty points (for example, 10 points per $1 spent). These points appear in the 99minds dashboard and on the customer’s profile.

  6. Redeeming points: To redeem, click Redeem in the widget, which issues a coupon (e.g. 100 points → $10 coupon). Verify that the coupon is applied to the sale correctly.

These steps confirm the widget is working. Any coupons or points issued will be visible in the 99minds system.

5. What loyalty reward rules are used by default?

By default, the widget uses a simple rule: 10 loyalty points earned per $1 spent, and 100 points can be redeemed for a $10 discount. In other words, customers earn 10 points on every dollar, and each 100 points gives a $10 coupon. You can change these values in the 99minds dashboard under the widget’s Ways to Redeem and Ways to Earn settings.
